We are very privileged to announce as our Judge for the Baileys Horse Feeds sponsored British Breeders Network Championships for 2017, the extraordinarily experienced Judge, Rider and Trainer, Katrin Bürger.

Katrin Burger is a graduate in agricultural engineering, but was an early and passionate rider. She made an internship at Gestuet Birkhof, a jumping and dressage breeding station in the South of Germany and became later the Head of Gestuet Schlossacker also in the South and, in parallel with this busy career running a breeding and young horse training station, she was a consistently successful rider of young horses at the German Bundeschampionat. Her successful rides include many unforgettable names such as French Kiss, Sir Oldenburg. Sir Nymphenburg, Daktyllius, Sterntanzer and in more recent years Sir Solitaer, Santo Dottoro, Danzarino and many more besides. From three year old Materiale classes to Grand Prix, Katrin has trained, ridden and been decorated with success with these special animals.

Most formatively, she spent nearly ten years as the Vice Chairman of Breeding at the Oldenburg Verband with responsibilities in all aspects of breeding for Oldenburg worldwide. Her experience of Foal Championships, Stallion Licensing and young horse selection and judging is deep and wide. She has given one of the most interesting and compelling lectures at the FEI Young Horse Breeding Seminar with some clear ideas for the direction of the breeding, marketing and training of future international horses.

She has now returned to South Germany where, with her partner she rides and trains both people and horses and is actively involved in the training of pony riders.

We thank her for joining us at Moreton Morrell on 9th September 2017 for our Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity Championships for Dressage and Showjumping and the Qualification and Finals of the Great Brutish Mare & Foal Show Series.

We very much enjoyed our time at the British Stallion Event on Saturday, 7th January 2017. With 58 stallions presented across all three Olympic discipline, it was great to see the depth and breadth of British breeding and stallions standing in this country. As always, the event felt uplifting and friendly, with visitors able to see the stallions in the arena, as well as in the stable, and meet their owners and riders. We would like to thank the many people who worked so hard to make this event a success, and in particular Cat Wood and Jan Rogers from the BEF.

One of the most important objectives to secure the future of British breeding is to create strong and lasting bonds between breeders and the sport. It is for this reason that we were delighted that Alan Davies, groom of none other than the celebrated Valegro, agreed to give a talk about what it’s like living and working with an equine superstar at the top of his career and constantly in the public eye.

Alan’s talk was truly eye opening and gave us a highly valuable insight into the day-to-day life of an international competition horse. It was inspiring to see the level of care and attention to detail, as well as the love and enthusiasm that goes into looking after a horse like Valegro

BBN members got the opportunity to ask questions about Valegro’s care and management at home and at big events like the WEG and Olympics. A BBN members only event, we were delighted ‘Living With Valegro’ was so well attended and enjoyed by everyone who came. Feedback has been incredibly positive.

On behalf of the BBN team, Directors and Members, our Chairman Keith Taylor has written to Alan to express all our thanks for coming to talk to us and to send our very best wishes to Valegro.

BBN members attending the event were able to come and chat with us on Stand #12, and enjoyed free coffee all day + glass of Bucks Fizz during Alan’s talk on Valegro. For those members who could not make it, we will be posting a video of Alan’s talk on our website shortly, so watch this space.

Christmas 2016 Sees Keith Taylor Appointed Chairman of the British Breeders’ Network

In 2016 British Breeders Network saw its busiest year yet, with a range of new initiatives designed to help breeders promote their stock, achieve better sales and enhance the profile of British breeding.

We are now also delighted to announce that the year culminates with the appointment of a new BBN Chairman; KEITH TAYLOR.

From 2008 to Q3 2016 Keith Taylor was Chairman of the British Equestrian Federation. During his period in office, the BEF benefited from record levels of investment and Team GBR achieved unparalleled equestrian sporting success.

Keith’s previous professional career spanned 30+ years in senior management with Diageo Plc and Mars Inc; famous for household brands: Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Pedigree pet food.

Following his ‘retirement’, Keith established the dressage breeding and training facility; Seagry Stud in North Wiltshire.

Keith is already known to many of our members, thanks to an extremely interesting and stimulating talk he gave at the Stallion Event at Bury Farm in January 2016, when he spoke about his marketing experience in charge of Diageo’s highly regarded brands, and how this marketing expertise can be applied to the breeding industry.

Keith will use his commercial marketing, brand management experience and passion for breeding to good effect in his role as BBN Chairman and will no doubt be a great asset to the network and its members, and we are excited to be working with him.

The BBN looks forward to building on our experiences from 2016 and growing our activities for 2017.

+ Meet Alan Davies – Valegro’s Groom

07 Jan 2017 @ The British Stallion Event

British Breeders’ Network is delighted to invite all members to a champagne reception in the lounge above the cafeteria to see a special presentation by Alan Davies, H&H Groom of the Year, on ‘Living With Valegro’ the Care & Management of an International Dressage Horse.

The presentation will start at 3 pm and finish by 4 pm, giving you plenty of time to view the stallions in the stables before the dressage stallions are due to parade in the arena at 5pm.

This event is free for BBN members and is expected to be very popular. You are advised to email us back if you plan to attend, as spaces are limited. If space allows, non-members may be able to purchase a temporary membership at the door for £10, to allow them to hear the talk. Better still, to avoid disappointment, join us online before the event to be assured of your place at this very special event.

Click here to view the Show Catalogue

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the first ever British Breeders’ Network GREAT BRITISH MARE & FOAL SHOW at The College EC, Keysoe, Bedfordshire on 29 August 2016. This unique event also hosts the SUPREME Futurity Dressage & Showjumping Foal & Mare Championship.
The order in which entries appear in the catalogue is not necessarily the order in which they will appear in the arena. All entrants must report to the Show secretary on arrival to collect an entry/bridle number. Entrants must be ready to enter the arena when their class is called and will enter the arena in order that they declare. All times on the TIMETABLE are approximate.

All entrants enter the arena individually, with each entrant being allowed up to 5 minutes in the arena for its solo display. All entrants will then enter the arena together, either in-hand or under saddle for ridden mare classes, for the final judging. Entrants placed 1st and 2nd in any class go forward to their appropriate championship. Prize money will be distributed between the first 3 places only in each class at t the champion only in each championship class.

By entering a class or the stallion display, all entrants understand and agree that they are competing entirely at their own risk. If you require more information please email info@britishbreedersnetwork.org or call Gail Kingswell Trueman on 07836 235981 or Lynne Crowden on 07768 323351.

With grateful thanks to our show class sponsors below

Due to circumstances beyond the Organisers’ control we’ve moved the Great British Mare & Foal Show + Futurity Championships to The College EC Keysoe, Bedfordshire on 02 September.

Please, please, please share this with everyone you know, on social media, email, phone, snapchat etc, to avoid people turning up at Addington EC, where the show was originally planned to be run, but who informed us last Wednesday, just 9 days before the event date, that the venue was no longer available.

The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe is located at Church Road, Keysoe, Bedford, MK44 2JP. For information on Keysoe please visit their website at http://keysoe.com. For directions visit http://keysoe.com/maps.shtml or to book a stable call 01234 708400 or email info@keysoe.com .

Entries close on Monday 29th August, although late entries may be permitted; in particular foals and their dams entered at the final few Futurity venues will be permitted to make late entries. ENTER ONLINE HERE.

If you had already entered, or plan to enter the Great British Mare & Foal Show and you have any questions, please email info@britishbreedersnetwork.org, or call Gail Kingswell Trueman on 07836 235981 or Lynne Crowden on 07768 323351.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the venue for GBMFS has been changed to The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire. The date remains unchanged at Friday 2nd September.

Addington informed us yesterday afternoon that the venue is no longer available for us to run our show there. We wasted no time in arranging an alternative venue and we are delighted that nearby venue, The College Equestrian Centre at Keysoe, Bedfordshire, was able to step into the breach at the 11th hour and very kindly offered their venue to us at extremely short notice. Keysoe boasts excellent equestrian event facilities, including both indoor and outdoor arenas, lorry parking, catering, tack shop, and overnight + day stabling for those travelling any distance. Visit the Keysoe website here. If you have any questions relating to the change of venue, please call either Lynne Crowden on 07768 323351, or Gail Kingswell Trueman on 07836 235981, or email us at info@britishbreedersnetwork.org.
